On the occasion of Milano Fashion Week, we present two evenings of screenings and conversation dedicated to the American photographer and director Bruce Weber. The second appointment is dedicated to the 1988 documentary in which he recounts the life of the great jazz trumpeter Chet Baker, who died that year. The film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary. When the film was released it was a big hit at the various festivals in which it participated, including the Venice Film Festival, where the movie won the Critics’ Prize, and the “New Directors/New Films” event at MoMA in 1989. Let's Get Lost, which is also the title of a song by Baker that has long been unavailable, powerfully conveys the spirit of Baker and his music.
Bruce Weber was born in 1946 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. An internationally acclaimed photographer and filmmaker, he has photographed for most major magazines and has 53 books to his credit. His work has been exhibited in over 90 gallery shows and museums around the world. His photographs are in the permanent collections of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as in the Photography Division of the City of Paris.
Chet Baker (1929 – 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and singer, known for his lyrical and intimate style and for being among the leading exponents of the genre known as cool jazz.
