The Treasure of His Youth: The Photographs of Paolo Di Paolo

On the occasion of Milano Fashion Week, we present two evenings of screenings and conversation dedicated to the American photographer and director Bruce Weber. The first appointment is dedicated to a documentary (2021) on the life and career of the photographer Paolo Di Paolo, which Weber made after coming across a photo he took of Pier Paolo Pasolini, in a gallery in Rome. Born in 1925, Di Paolo pursued an intense career as a photojournalist in the 1950s and ’60s, portraying movie and cultural icons of the period, from Anna Magnani to Grace Kelly, Ezra Pound, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Giuseppe Ungaretti and Giorgio de Chirico.

The screening is preceded by an introduction by Carla Morogallo, Director general of Triennale Milano, and a conversation with Bruce Weber, Silvia Di Paolo, daughter of Paolo Di Paolo and curator of the photo archive, Luca Stoppini, scientific advisor to the fashion department of Triennale Milano, and Angelo Flaccavento, journalist and fashion critic.

Bruce Weber was born in 1946 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. An internationally acclaimed photographer and filmmaker, he has photographed for most major magazines and has 53 books to his credit. His work has been exhibited in over 90 gallery shows and museums around the world. His photographs are in the permanent collections of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as in the Photography Division of the City of Paris.

Paolo Di Paolo (1925 –2023), Italian photojournalist, was among the leading photographers of the weekly “Il Mondo,” edited by Mario Pannunzio.
