Concerto al buio

Teho Teardo
February 17 2025, 7.30pm
Running time: 50'
The spaces of the Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan host a pure listening project by composer, sound designer, and musician Teho Teardo. Concerto al buio stems from a series of nocturnal environmental recordings made in the forests on the border between Italy, Austria, and Slovenia. A world of sound packed with rhythmic patterns, animal cries, noises, and enigmas. Fifty minutes immersed in darkness, on an adventurous walk in stillness, lying on the ground, where the senses move through the sound. The pivot is in the music and what it can trigger in listeners in the dark. Reality, like the negative of a photograph, is pervaded with dark, unexplored matter in which we can seek new perspectives to scrutinize the world.
Teho Teardo, composer, musician, and sound designer, is one of the most original and eclectic artists on the European music scene. A curious sound explorer who is always attentive to stimuli from other artistic forms, he devotes himself to concert and recording activity, releasing several albums that probe the relationship between electronic music and traditional instruments. He can boast a number of prominent collaborations including Blixa Bargeld, Enda Walsh, Erik Friedlander, Elio Germano, Charles Freger, Michele Riondino, and Vinicio Capossela. He has composed numerous soundtracks for directors such as Sorrentino, Vicari, Molaioli, Salvatores and many others, also winning David di Donatello, Ciak d’Oro and Ennio Morricone awards. In 2020 he released the album Ellipses dans l’harmonie, produced and commissioned by the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli and entirely inspired by the music contained in the pages of Diderot and D’Alembert’s Encyclopédie. December 2023 saw the release of Live in Berlin, the new album by Teardo and Blixa Bargeld. He is currently on a long theatrical tour with Elio Germano with two shows featuring words and live music.
