Symphonia Harmoniæ Cælestium Revelationum
François Chaignaud – Marie-Pierre Brébant
October 27 – 28, 2023
ITALIAN PREMIERE
A remarkably eclectic performer, choreographer and dancer, François Chaignaud continues to reimagine myths and stories from the past through his body and voice. Together with the hypnotic Baroque musician Marie-Pierre Brébant (and the bandura, an ancient traditional stringed instrument from Ukraine), in Symphonia Harmoniæ Cælestium Revelationum the French artist tackles the musical compositions of Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th-century nun, theologian, mystic, healer, playwright and musician.
This performance-concert turns into a total artwork – visual, musical and choreographic. Chaignaud and Brébant evoke a vanished world of emblems and enigmas through a dreamlike and visionary performance.
A writer, historian and singer, as well as a true master of cross-dressing, François Chaignaud has created a unique character over the years, capable of skilfully mixing high and pop culture, tradition and innovation, defying genres and categories. A graduate of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, this artist creates performances in which song and dance come together through different sources of inspiration. Chaignaud has been awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic.
Marie-Pierre Brébant studied music and ballet in Rheims, and then early music at the Conservatoire national de Région. She has engaged with the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire in a variety of ways: as a dancer, as a musician in orchestral and chamber ensembles, as an accompanist for ballet classes and as the musical director of the Baroque ensemble Sept Mesures de soie (until 2012).
