Mimmo Palladino, panel for the weapon calendar, 2019
Exhibition
Always, everywhere 211 years of Carabinieri history through art, cinema and society
Free admission
Through an extensive selection of archival materials, audiovisuals and works of art, the exhibition traces the link between the Carabinieri and Milan, from the arrival of the Force in the city in 1859 at the Palazzo Cattaneo, headquarters of the Lombardy Legion Command, in what is now Via della Moscova. Particular emphasis will be given to representations of the Carabinieri in the visual arts, photography and cinema, reflecting the historical, political, aesthetic, social and economic changes taking place in the country. As proof of their long-standing commitment to art as a vehicle for their values, the Carabinieri have commissioned various artists to illustrate the Historical Calendar of the Carabinieri, which documents scenes from their service, uniforms and vehicles, along with historical figures. The exhibition, beginning with a reconstruction of the Carabinieri’s presence in Milan through important architectural and artistic “landmarks”, from the historic headquarters in Palazzo Cattaneo to the monument by Luciano Minguzzi in Piazza Diaz, includes a sample of the various types of uniforms and illustrations of the various ways in which the Carabinieri are represented in painting, sculpture and cinema, with works by Ottone Rosai, Pietro Annigoni, Sandro Chia, Mimmo Paladino, Francesco Clemente, Marco Lodola and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
