Where exactly is the North located? Is it not true that the ancients did not know the word and instead used North and South, East and West? It all began when in 1862 two patriots from Lombardy, improvised geographers and statisticians, set out to redraw the regions after the Unification of Italy, starting again from Augustus' subdivisions. And so they begin to suspect that Lombardy does not exist, that it is only a geographical expression. Marco Belpoliti has been observing this “North North” for over thirty years: is it all an invention? The author takes us on a journey inside this land of family stories and traditions, taking us on a journey into the past and present, and announcing the future of the “North North,” a land to be discovered and investigated through the stories of unforgettable landscapes and characters.
