Songs for no one

Nastaran Razawi Khorasani
February 18 – 19, 2025
ITALIAN PREMIERE
Running time: 60'
Iranian playwright and performer Nastaran Razawi Khorasani gives a voice to a boy and a girl living under the Islamic dictatorship in Iran. Dialogues, poems, and songs are interwoven on stage in an evocative solo based on a series of telephone conversations with the children. Songs for no one is a portrait of a hidden society and allows otherwise invisible stories to emerge. Overlaying excerpts from everyday life with the hopes and dreams of the younger generation, the show tells of the fragility and wonder of freedom. Winner of the Dutch BNG Bank Theaterprijs 2020 and 2021, Songs for no one was selected in 2022 by the Flemish Theatre Festival as one of the most socially relevant and innovative productions of the season, and for the Theater der Welt in Frankfurt-Offenbach in 2023.
Nastaran Razawi Khorasani, born in Iran in 1987, is a graduate of the Maastricht Institute of Performing Arts. In her documentary performances, she works with true stories of real people to give a voice to those who do not have one and create a space for listening to those condemned to silence. In 2014 she won the Gouden Krekel award for best theatrical performance. In 2020 she was nominated for the dance award dedicated to young audiences of the Nederlandse Dansdagen. In 2023 she was nominated for the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prize. Her work has been presented globally at Theater Commons in Tokyo, the Municipal Theater in Porto, Zürcher Theater Spektakel, and the Indonesian Dance Festival, among others. This is not a dance was nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance award. Songs for no one is nominated this year for the Patronage Award and the Audience Award at the Zürcher Theater Spektakel.
