Meet the artist: Sebastiano d'Ayala Valva and Carol Robinson
Free entrance
The Anglo-Italian director Sebastiano d'Ayala Valva and the Franco-American composer Carol Robinson engage in dialogue with Ricciarda Belgioiso, a scholar and musician, as well as co-artistic director of Piano City Milano. A conversation to delve into the work of the two artists and their artistic and personal relationship with the French composer Éliane Radigue.
Sebastiano d’Ayala Valva was born in London in 1978 to an Italian father and an English mother. He lives in Paris, where in 2003 he graduated in Journalism from the Institut d’Études Politiques. Since 2005, he has been dedicated to writing and directing documentaries for French television. Anche i travestiti piangono(2007), Angel(2009), Adapté(s)(2012), Performants Autrement (2016). His documentary La Casa del Padre (2009) was awarded at the Torino Film Festival. Il primo moto dell’immobile (2018) was acquired by ARTE and aired on La Lucarne, a channel dedicated to auteur documentaries, after being presented at the Torino Film Festival and the IDFA - International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
To say that Carol Robinson is a Franco-American composer and clarinetist is perhaps too restrictive to describe the eclecticism of her experience and passion. Whether playing repertoire or experimental material, she performs in major venues and festivals the world over with musicians from a wide stylistic spectrum. Author of over one hundred works, she began composing by writing music theater pieces, subsequently receiving commissions for concert music, installations, radio, dance, and film productions. Recent premieres include instrumental music with or without electronics and works for vocal ensembles or orchestra, with commissions from Radio France, Brucknerhaus Linz, French Ministry of Culture, Donaueschinger Musiktage… Her music has been recorded by the Hessischer Rundfunk, Saarlandischer Rundfunk, Sudwest Rundfunk and Radio France, and released on PLUSH, AYLER, SHIIIN, MODE and Expérience de vol.
