Kinkaleri
October 25 – 26, 2019
Duration: 60’
After more than 15 years, Kinkaleri restages , winner of the Ubu prize in 2002, when the work was presented as a study. does not come back as a piece of repertoire that withstands the test of time; it continues to ask questions, to search through an empty space. A person enters the stage and falls. More specifically, the person doesn’t enter in order to fall; they fall because they enter. Falling is here the emblem of an era. Years later, this fall tries to establish a relation with a new generation, to understand if the collapse that had been identified at the beginning of the new millennium is still ongoing, or if we are on an iceberg that has broken off and is drifting away.
Kinkaleri was founded in 1995 as a gathering of formats and media hanging in the balance. Kinkaleri’s productions have always followed different paths – shows, performances, installations, videos, sound projects, stagings, publications – and have been presented in contemporary art museums, theatres, festivals, dance and theatre programs, film festivals, sound installations, clubs, TV shows. Kinkaleri’s works have featured in several hybrid programs and have played a prominent role in the avant-garde scene, both in Italy and abroad: Milan, CRT and UOVO Festival; Santarcangelo Festival; Prato Teatro Fabbricone; Terni, Es.terni; Ferrara, Teatro Comunale; Turin, Teatro Regio; Paris, Centre Pompidou Les Spectacles Vivants; Brussels, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Beijing, Italy’s Year in China Oriental Pioneer theatre; Tokyo, Body/Other; Hamburg, Kampnagel; Wien, TanzQuartier; Berlin, Hebbel-am-Ufer and TanzImAugust, Nyon, Far Festival des arts. During these years they have also collaborated with various artist including Emanuele Becheri, Jacopo Benassi, Riccardo Benassi, Canedicoda, Daniela Cattivelli, John Giorno, Invernomuto, Jacopo Miliani, Margherita Morgantin, Nation25, Paolo Parisi, Tempo Reale, Nico Vascellari. In 2002, the company received the prize “Lo Straniero - Scommesse per il futuro” and again in 2002, the company was awarded the Ubu Prize for the work , nominated for best dance-theatre piece of the year: “one of the most astonishing performances of the season, blurring boundaries between genres” (M. Marino). Since 2001, Kinkaleri has been based in Prato at spazioK, in the former industrial area of the old town. Since 2013, spazioK is a regional centre for artistic residencies and develops creative interdisciplinary projects with new generations of artists.
