A businessman, after losing his job and realizing he's alone in the world, decides to take his own life. However, lacking the courage to do it alone, he hires a hitman. While waiting to die, he meets a woman he falls hopelessly in love with. Absurd and existential, the film is a rare and captivating testament to 1980s London. In his first collaboration with Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, the French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud proves to be perfect for the director's quirky, impassive, and not exactly comedic style.
