Emma-Jean Thackray is an English trumpeter, composer and producer. In her pieces brass, strings, and choral segments trace bright lines that wiggle between fusion and funk.
Originally from Yorkshire, Emma-Jean began her musical journey at primary school and by the age of 13 was first cornet in a local brass band.
A bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and producer, she now lives in southeast London and embodies a vision of both spiritual and dance jazz that breaks from the broader UK scene.
Her debut album Yellow is a psychedelic, intense and ecstatic journey. A plunge into a new sonic matter from which everyone emerges transformed. One glimpses the cosmic invocations of Sun Ra Orchestra and Alice Coltrane and, at times, echoes of resplendent Beach Boys.
