Deriva Traversa
Running time 25’
This magnetic dance solo by the visionary group Dewey Dell is inspired by popular myths and the beauty of rural life, in a performance where body and voice are in osmotic connection. In the dance, plastic and sculptural movements are accompanied by and appear to emerge from the soundscapes of Demetrio Castellucci and the voices of A dead forest index, the duo composed of Adam and Sam Sherry, inspired by the sounds of cantu a tenore, a style of singing typical of Sardinian shepherds since the Nuragic era. In a total artwork that combines tradition, music, dance, humanity and nature, Dewey Dell offers a total immersion in a world suspended in time, where there are echoes of the solitude and slow pace of rural life and of the sounds of animals and nature.
Dewey Dell is a dance and performing arts company that has been active since 2006, currently composed of Teodora Castellucci, Agata Castellucci, Vito Matera, and musician Demetrio Castellucci. Their choreographic exploration is consistently inspired by images from art history and behaviors in the animal kingdom, progressively approaching anthropological themes in recent years. Dewey Dell has produced the following works: à elle vide (2007), KIN KEEN KING (2008), Baldassarre (2008), Cinquanta Urlanti Quaranta Ruggenti Sessanta Stridenti (2009), Grave (2011), Marzo (2013), Trasmissione Verticale (2016), Sleep Technique – A Response to the Cave Chauvet Pont d’Arc (2017), Deriva Traversa (2017), the diptych I Am Within & I Am Without (2018), Hamlet (2021), and I'll do, I'll do, I'll do (2022). These works have been presented globally at many venues such as Arts House and the Melbourne Festival in Australia, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Biennale Danza in Venice, Triennale Milano and the Mime Festival at the Barbican in London.
