Deflorian / Tagliarini  Quasi Niente

February 21 – 24, 2019
“Deflorian and Tagliarini embody an Italian theatre of research, secretly political and philosophical.”  Théâtral magazine
Red Desert, Michelangelo Antonioni’s first color film, is the starting point for the new international co-production of Deflorian/Tagliarini, the famous award-winning Italian duo. Attracted by marginalized and humble personalities, they chose to work on the character of Giuliana (interpreted in the movie by Monica Vitti): a “wild character dressed elegantly” who is on a quest for truth, a quality which we nowadays tend to ignore. As if we all have been but no longer are Giuliana. We have adapted, we no longer ask the questions that she did. Rather than suffering as individuals, we do so as a society.  A piece which focuses not only on embarrassment, fragility and the cracks but also on the childish purity of a woman whom the world no longer seems interested in listening to.
Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini are two performers, writer and directors who, alongside their own personal works, have embarked on an intense and regular collaboration since 2008.Their first such collaborative work was Rewind, A Tribute to Café Muller by Pina Bausch created in 2008. In 2009 they co-wrote, directed and acted in their own production called From A to D and back again while since then they have worked on czeczy/cose (2011), Reality (2012) for which Daria Deflorian received the Premio Ubu 2012 for Best Leading Actress, Ce ne andiamo per non darvi altre preoccupazioni (2013), co-created by Monica Piseddu and Valentino Villa.  This play won the Ubu Award 2014 for Best New Italian Dramaturgical Research as well as the Critic’s Award in Quebec for Best Foreign Play. Three of their texts were published by Titivillus 2014 in one edition called Trilogia dell’invisibile. In Autumn 2015 Daria and Antonio presented both Ce ne andiamo per non darvi altre preoccupazioni and Reality at the Festival d’Automne in Paris. This also marked the beginning of an international tour through France, Swiss, Germany and Canada. During the same period they created two site-specific pieces, Il posto (2014) for the Milanese museum house Boschi Di Stefano, and Quando non so cosa fare cosa faccio (2015) performed along the streets of Rome. In 2016 Il cielo non è un fondale made its debut at Losannaa piece created in collaboration with Francesco Alberici and Monica Demuru which received great success in Italy and abroad.
