Concert
Crosscurrents Trio: Zakir Hussain/Chris Potter/Dave Holland
November 7 2024
Two shows, h 8.00pm and 10.00pm
We regret to inform you that, for health reasons, Zakir Hussain has had to suspend the tour. He will be replaced by Marcus Gilmore on drums.
As stated by Mike Hobart of the Financial Times, the trio features Hussain in the company of saxophone virtuoso Chris Potter and bass genius Dave Holland. A trio that normally belongs to a larger ensemble, the Crosscurrents, who have distinguished themselves musically for investigating the boundaries of Indian music and jazz. A mix of ragas swing that made them the focal point of the 2017 EGF London Jazz Festival seeing Indian musicians on piano and guitar on stage, a project with an almost exploratory air. But in this reduced line-up, the comfort given by the ensemble of musicians is replaced by the sonic warmth of Hussain's Indian drumming, while the depth and rapport with the band convey the idea that the musicians know exactly that they are treading familiar ground."
