Art and Risk in Between

As part of Planeta Ukrain we present a selection of three films - Roman Bondarchuk's Dixie Land, Andrii Lysetskyi's Ivan's Land, and Iryna Tsilyk's The Earth Is Blue as an Orange - to chronicle the contrasts of Ukrainian reality, curated by Olga Birzul in partnership with Docudays UA IHRDFF.
At the end of the screenings Roman Bondarchuk, Andrii Lysetskyi and Iryna Tsilyk, directors of the films, will answer questions from the audience, moderated by Lidia Liberman, one of the curators of Planeta Ukrain.
16.00 - Dixie Land

A documentary, shot in the Ukrainian town of Cherson, that follows four members of children's orchestra who are passionate about American jazz music as they grow up. The film focuses on the children's strong bond with their grumpy but beloved teacher.

Directed by: Andrii Lysetskyi
The film portrays Ivan Prykhodko, one of the last folk artists in Ukraine. Self-taught, he lives in the countryside, in a world apart, devoting himself to field work, animals, and painting-all that comes from his brushstrokes is a simple, honest art form. He rejects the economic success that comes his way because of a deep connection to his land.

A meta-cinematic documentary following the lives of a family left behind in the Donbass - Ukraine - despite the ongoing conflict: an intimate family story about the passion for cinema as an act of liberation in a grueling war.
