During Milano Design Week, The Eames Office and Kettal present The Eames Houses, an expansive architectural installation that offers the first comprehensive overview of the Eameses’ residential architecture, an integral part of their broader design philosophy. Developed through multi-year research, the exhibition explores the enduring relevance of Charles and Ray’s radical thinking on prefabrication, modular construction, and human-scaled living. Grounded in Charles and Ray Eames’ residential projects of the 1940s and 1950s, the installation unveils the Eames Pavilion System: a new modular architectural system developed by the Eames Office in collaboration with Kettal. The Eames Houses features two striking life-sized constructions of Eames pavilions, alongside newly commissioned scale models of eight houses designed by Charles and Ray Eames, several of which have never been seen or published before. The exhibition also brings together rare archival drawings, films, and photographs from the Eames archives.
Charles and Ray Eames founded Eames Office, their Los Angeles–based studio, in 1941. Together they made decisive contributions to the fields of architecture, furniture design, film, textiles, toys, exhibitions, and beyond. Through its enduring influence, Eames Office redefined the idea of a design studio in terms of vision, work ethic, and process. After Charles’s death in 1978 and Ray’s in 1988, the studio evolved from a multidisciplinary practice into a cultural and commercial organization. Led by new generations of the family, it is dedicated to communicating, preserving, and developing one of the most influential design legacies in the world. To pursue this mission, the office works closely with licensed manufacturers to bring the Eameses’ original designs to market and to share their work with new generations through educational programs, curated exhibitions, and collaborations with brands.
