Listening session
Stockhausen Cosmic Pulses
March 22 2026, 11.00pm
Free admission upon registration
We host a listening session dedicated to Cosmic Pulses, one of the most important and final works of the electronic output of the visionary German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928–2007). Part of Equinozio, the event is introduced by Angela Ida De Benedictis and Francesco Giomi; this is followed by a listening of the work, which unfolds as an immersion into a world of impulses. In Voce, our space dedicated to music and sound, listening becomes a three-dimensional experience: sounds orbit around the listener, creating a sonic magma in constant expansion and contraction.
Angela Ida De Benedictis is Scientific Director of the Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel, where she curates around thirty collections. She is also Scientific Director of the Centro Studi Luciano Berio. She previously worked as a researcher at the Faculty of Musicology at the University of Pavia and has taught at several Italian and international universities. She has published numerous essays and volumes on 20th- and 21st-century music.
Francesco Giomi is a composer, improviser, and sound director. He has collaborated with Luciano Berio as well as with many prominent composers, performers, choreographers, and theatre directors, in addition to Italian and international orchestras and ensembles. He teaches Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Conservatory of Music in Bologna and is Director of Tempo Reale, the music research, production, and education centre in Florence.
