Joel Ross

October 29 2021, 11.00pm
“I never had a doubt that I was going to do music“, says Joel Ross, the most exciting vibraphonist in America and beyond. Acclaimed and recognized as one of the most vital voices of jazz today, the young musician (just twenty years old) from Chicago to New York, made a lot of talk about himself in America, where he received important awards, participated in major festivals and played in the most prestigious jazz clubs. In a few years he has collaborated with jazz stars such as Herbie Hancock, Christian Mcbride or Louis Hayes but also with the best exponents of the last generations as Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Clayton or Jon Batiste.
In 2019, he made his debut as a leader with the album Kingmaker, which garnered enormous critical acclaim and was placed on the New York Times chart as “Best Jazz of 2019“. In 2020 the talent of Jopel Ross explodes with Whoareyou, demonstrating an unusual maturity of instrumentalists who face tangled musical plots while maintaining a pleasant smoothness without that boring desire to amaze at all costs.
