Italia in movimento Autostrade e futuro

Until February 22 2026
Free admission
The exhibition examines the impact that highway infrastructure has had over the past century on the landscape, economy, and society. The highway is reinterpreted as a vehicle of modernity: from early historical projects to postwar expansion and today’s scenarios of environmental sustainability, the exhibition traces the transition from the ‘’Grand Tour’’ to mass mobility. Through archival materials, photographs, and maps, the exhibition reconstructs the evolution of the territory, outlining future perspectives for Italy’s road network. The itinerary is structured in four sections: the road network and its construction; the journey; the highway landscape, portrayed through the photographs of Iwan Baan. Finally, the images of Emiliano Ponzi offer an insight into the technology, architectural and artistic imagination as tools for rethinking mobility in the present and the future.
