TOTENTANZ Morgen ist Die Frage

Marcos Morau / La Veronal
October 8 2024
PREMIERE
Running time 50' Two shows, at 9.00 and 10.30 pm
The Totentanz, also known as the Danse Macabre or Dance of Death, was already in medieval times a way to exorcise the fear of death in a carnival of desperate vitality. Marcos Morau, one of the most visionary artists on the contemporary scene, and his dance company La Veronal, one of the most celebrated companies on the international panorama, revisit this ritual through a site-specific performance specially created for the Triennale Milano spaces: the dance of death – the forefather of all raves – returns to make us question who we are and where we are going, in a euphoric and cathartic spiritualist seance that celebrates the fragility of life.
Made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture in 2023, and selected as the 2023 best choreographer of the year by prestigious German dance magazine “Tanz”, Marcos Morau (1982) continues to develop as a creator and stage director. Having studied photography, choreography and theatre in Barcelona and New York, Marcos Morau now constructs imaginary worlds and landscapes where images, words, movement, music and space constitute a unique universe constantly nourished by cinema, photography and literature. Since 2004 he has directed La Veronal, a company that has appeared at theatres and festivals in over thirty countries, pursuing its search for new formats and modes of expression and communication in the contemporary world. Apart from his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is also an international guest artist with several companies and theatres where he develops new creations, always halfway between dance and the performing arts. He is the youngest creator to win the Premio Nacional de Danza, the highest award in the sector in Spain, and he has won numerous awards in international choreography competitions, as well as critics’ awards. He has taken part with La Veronal in the latest editions of FOG with Pasionaria (2022), Sonoma (2023) and Firmamento (2024).
