Lino Capra Vaccina is one of the central figures of European experimental music. Thanks to the collaboration with the Unione Buddhista Italiana, the concert will feature — for the first time in ten years — the live performance of Antico adagio, the piece that gives its name to the 1978 album, a milestone of international minimalism, along with a selection of works from his more recent production. Antico adagio is an album of rarefied atmospheres, cosmic resonances, rituality, and suspension, where silence holds the same importance as sound. Through gentle undulations, small melodic fragments, and dialogues between acoustic instruments and resonances — evoking what seems like a ghost orchestra — Vaccina’s music generates states of suspension and deep listening. It stands as an example of personal research, discipline, and openness, capable of speaking across time to anyone willing to be moved by its listening.
Born in Barletta in 1953, Lino Vaccina founded Aktuala with Walter Maioli at the age of nineteen — a fusion of psychedelic rock with African, Asian, and Mediterranean sounds. He studied composition, piano, and percussion at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, while simultaneously beginning a long collaboration with Franco Battiato and Juri Camisasca, contributing to their works as both percussionist and composer. In 1975, together with them, he founded Telaio Magnetico, an ensemble active exclusively in live performances. From 1979 to 1985, he was a percussionist with the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, performing under conductors such as Abbado and Ozawa. He has collaborated with artists including Keith and Julie Tippett, Markus Stockhausen, Paolo Tofani, and John Greaves. Vaccina’s artistic journey is distinguished by a language that is both rigorous and sensual, merging Eastern, Mediterranean, and African influences, ritual elements, and a cosmic sense of time.
