The festival In reciproca attesa, in collaboration with UBI Unione Buddhista Italiana, concludes with a concert by musicians and composers Carol Robinson and Bertrand Gauguet. The musical program ranges from B-A-C-H (2000), in which Robinson plays with the sequence of notes that spell the composer’s name, weaving together quotations, abstraction, and resonance, to Day/Light Times (2008), a more contemplative and suspended work unfolding in layers, sparse sounds, and subtle vibrations. In Paysages pneuma (improvisation), Gauguet explores the saxophone’s harmonics, gradually shaping a landscape defined in real time through the interplay of breath, resonance, and intuition. Alto saxophone and bass clarinet come together in Occam River XXII (Éliane Radigue/Carol Robinson, 2018), where time seems suspended in listening and breathing, in an essential musical expression that becomes a full sonic immersion. This is an experience that goes beyond mere performance, transforming it into an acoustic meditation.
Franco-American composer and clarinetist Carol Robinson is an exceptional performer of new works, as well as of classical and contemporary repertoire. She has played in alternative rock bands and composed over one hundred works for theater, film, dance, installations, radio, and concerts. Her most recent works include instrumental music, with and without electronics, as well as compositions for orchestra and vocal ensembles, commissioned by institutions such as Brucknerhaus Linz, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Ensemble Klang, the London Contemporary Music Festival, the French Ministry of Culture, and Radio France. As a soloist, she has recorded monographic albums dedicated to Luciano Berio, Morton Feldman, Phil Niblock, Luigi Nono, Éliane Radigue, and Giacinto Scelsi. She lives in Paris.
Parisian Bertrand Gauguet plays alto and baritone saxophone both as a soloist and within collectives devoted to new music and improvisation. He composes electronic music and has created pieces and soundtracks for dance, film, and radio, as well as field recordings for films, exhibitions, and radio broadcasts. His work explores the interaction between frequencies, multiphonics, the threshold of audibility, breath, and sound as a medium for meditation. His discography includes around twenty albums.
