Listening session

Khalab, Baba Sissoko

May 26 2026, 7.00pm
Free admission upon registration
At Voce, we host Khalab and Baba Sissoko: the former, a producer and sound researcher among the most recognized figures in the European afrofuturist scene; the latter, a master of the tamani and a leading exponent of ethnic music and jazz, as well as a central figure in Malian musical culture. Together they present Foli Bah, the new album to be released on May 29 via Hyperjazz Records. Moving between dimensions embodied in sound, repetition, and improvisation, this listening session offers a unique opportunity to experience the album in preview alongside the artists. The two first met eleven years ago, when electronic music and griot tradition found synthesis in a record that redefined the boundaries between the two languages. This new album deepens that dialogue: hypnotic structures built on obsessive loops, where Khalab’s compositional method meets Baba Sissoko’s mastery. Five tracks, with titles in Bambara, evoke universal themes such as power, destiny, coexistence, and trust.
Moderated by Nina Terruzzi, curator of Battiti, Rai Radio 3.
Khalab Raffaele Costantino, known professionally as Khalab, is a producer and sound researcher. His music explores the fusion of electronic and jazz genres through an ultra-contemporary synthetic sound. He has released music on Black Acre, On The Corner/!K7, and Hyperjazz Records. Among his most significant projects is M’berra, an album born from a collaboration with the Tuareg community in a Mauritanian refugee camp. He hosts Musicalbox on RAI Radio 2.
Baba Sissoko, born in Bamako, is a master of the tamani and a central figure in contemporary African musical culture. Hailing from a dynasty of Malian griots, he revolutionized tradition by introducing the tamani into modern music. A multi-instrumentalist, he blends traditional Malian rhythms with jazz and blues. He has collaborated with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Rokia Traoré, Buena Vista Social Club, and Damon Albarn. In 2018, he received the Obaland Music Award.
