Mediated Balancing
October 10 2025, 2.00pm – 8.00pm
Free admission upon registration
On the occasion of Inequalities, an afternoon with the the SUSTech School of Design, Shenzhen to explore the contribution of technology-extended and science-informed design for actionable opportunities.
Designing becomes a process of mediated balancing where technology serves as the intermediary and science as the enabler. Engaging with environments through processes of mediated balancing allows designers to navigate the tensions between competing forces, whether social, ecological, or technological, with the aim of creating pathways towards more equitable and balanced futures. The SUSTech School of Design, Shenzhen understands design as an agent for diversity, acknowledged as a vital quality of a balanced and harmonious life. The shift from a driver of progress and efficiency to an agent of nurture and restoration expands the multidisciplinary and holistic nature of design with principles, knowledge, and methods from life science, cognitive science, and ecological studies, supported by technology enabling the sensing and reading of minds, bodies, and environments.
