As part of Equinozio, Italian astrophysicist Ersilia Vaudo meets the public at Voce Triennale to take us on a journey between the celestial and the earthly world. Through the story of the great scientific revolutions—from Isaac Newton, who at the end of the 17th century unified heaven and earth by introducing gravity, to Albert Einstein, who redefined its meaning in space-time—the meeting becomes an opportunity to question what holds the universe and our experience in this world together.
Ersilia Vaudo Scarpetta graduated in Astrophysics from La Sapienza University in Rome, where she began her research career in the Department of Cosmology, working on experiments dedicated to measuring the anisotropy of cosmic background radiation. She has been with the European Space Agency since 1991 and currently holds the position of Chief Diversity Officer in Paris. A passion for science and social commitment have always accompanied her career, as has the outreach work she has been doing for almost thirty years, convinced of the inspirational power of science for the younger generations.
