Choreographer Cindy Van Acker’s fascinating new creation is a powerful and atmospheric duet inspired by the works of Flemish painter Leon Spilliaert. Through dance, Van Acker seeks the diaphanous nature and the beloved, deep blacks of his paintings. Quiet Light is inhabited by dancers, Stéphanie Bayle and Daniela Zaghini, who modulate the stage with their presence and absence in a remarkably planned interplay of shadow and light, full of trompe-l’œil, spectacular jumps in scale, and breathtaking superimpositions. The striking alikeness of these two bodies intertwine with empty space, revealing theater in its essence: the sensations of ephemerality and evanescence, which are the true strength of a live performance.
Having trained in ballet in Antwerp, Cindy Van Acker danced for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the Grand Théâtre in Geneva before joining the Geneva contemporary dance scene in the 1990s. In 2002 she founded Compagnie Greffe. Since then she has created about thirty pieces for Cie Greffe, as well as works for Ballet de Lorraine, Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, P.A.R.T.S. and choreographies for Romeo Castellucci's productions. In November 2017, she became an associate artist of the ADC in Geneva, under the direction of Anne Davier. Her works Diffraction and Speechless Voices received the Choreographic Production Award from the OFC. She is a winner of the Swiss Performing Arts Award 2023 / Hans Reinhart Ring and the Leenaards Cultural Award 2023.
