The eighth edition of FOG concludes with a concert by Pakistani singer, composer, and producer Arooj Aftab, winner in the Best Global Music Performance category with Mohabbat at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Aftab spans various musical genres and forms of expression: her music fluctuates between classical and new age minimalism, Sufi devotional poetry, and electronic trance with jazz structures, resulting in an unmistakable and refined style. Named one of NPR’s top 100 composers, she has performed at major international music festivals and the most prestigious contemporary culture centers.
Arooj Aftab, a U.S. resident, has been featured in several top concert charts, including those compiled by The New York Times. Her album Vulture Prince has received critical acclaim from such publications as The Guardian, Time Magazine, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Los Angeles Times. She has performed at major international music festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Primavera Sound Barcelona, Roskilde Festival, and Montreal Jazz Festival. She has also played at performing arts centers such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, and the Broad. She is a 2023 United States Artists Fellow and has been awarded the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Music.
