Vinicio Vianello Il design del vetro a Murano
January 15 – March 1 2026
Free admission
Vinicio Vianello (1923–1999) received his artistic training within the Spatialist movement initiated by Lucio Fontana. Beginning in the 1950s, he explored the expressive potential of glass alongside the masters of Murano. His research focused on asymmetrical forms and spatial and nuclear themes, placing the relationship between material, gesture, and project at its core. As design asserted its disciplinary autonomy, Vianello developed the concept of "variable form," understood as a dynamic dialogue between design and artisanal production. His glass vases won the Compasso d'Oro and the Grand Prix at the 1957 Milan Triennale; in the same year, Vianello began producing blown-glass lamps, based on an industrial design approach and modular formal systems, such as the Nelson lamp. The exhibition, located at the Triennale's Piano Parco, presents, in addition to preparatory sketches and historical photographs, nine glass vases and a glass lamp created between 1951 and 1986. These works testify to a coherent and experimental research spanning over three decades of practice, restoring the centrality of glass as a meeting point between art, design, and craftsmanship.
