In October 2023, OBLICUOHIFI Bar opened in Barcelona, inspired by Japanese Jazz Kissa and founded by Ivanmaria Vele and Dobrochna Giedwidz. The Italian-Polish couple, after meeting in London and spending a long season in Milan, brought to Barcelona a wealth of professional experience in everything from clubbing, publishing, fashion, and design. With its fusion of music, high-fidelity sound, cutting-edge cocktails, natural wines and artisanal sake, OBLICUOHIFI Bar has become a favorite haunt of the creative set in the Gràcia neighborhood, the city’s pulsating heart. The founders called on Giorgio Di Salvo (GDS), manager of sound design at Voce Triennale, to develop and design their Hi-Fi system as well. Two of Oblicuo’s many musical souls are on display as Uruguayan dj Fatal and dj Hanakito of Japan, resident spinners who play nothing but vinyl, propose wide-ranging, eclectic listening experiences both edgy and up-beat. The resulting sound journey encourages changes in outlook that can lead to new visions and connections.
Maximiliano Arrieri, also known as Fatal, was born in Montevideo and has been based in Barcelona since 2019. As a DJ, he stands out for his unique ability to uncover forgotten or under-the-radar records. This distinctive approach has set him apart without confining him to any specific genre when searching for and spinning tracks. With over 10 years of experience and a keen ear developed from a young age, Fatal has forged an eclectic and distinctive style that has established him as a standout talent in the scene. Renowned for his refined taste and exceptional mixing skills, Fatal is an expert at crafting unique musical narratives that adapt seamlessly to any type of event. His selection ranges from proto-house, new beat, and techno to unconventional electronic sounds from the '80s and '90s, always maintaining a fresh and surprising approach. His record collection features forgotten and off-the-radar gems that bring a distinctive and original touch to each set, allowing him to stand out without being confined to a single genre. His precise mixing and versatility in music selection enable him to create dynamic sets that capture and sustain the audience's energy. Fatal’s dedication and his skillful blending of diverse styles reflect his deep commitment to music and his ability to craft truly special experiences.
Hanakito is best known for her eclectic approach behind the decks. Her sets are characterized by a groovy flow, blending rare groove, Latin funk, soul, disco, and much more, with a particular focus on the roots of Chicago and Detroit house music. Her sound organically captivates true music lovers. Her musical career began in the underground scene of her hometown, Tokyo, in the early 2010s. Working at Aoyama Tunnel, a renowned underground club where legends of Tokyo’s music scene regularly performed, sparked her passion for electronic music. It was there that she connected deeply with the local DJ culture and began organizing her own events. Her passion for music grew even stronger during her time in Latin America. While living in Mexico City in 2016, she started to build her professional DJ career, drawing inspiration from the city’s energetic local music scene. Now based in Barcelona, Hanakito has brought her sound to audiophile spaces such as Espai Salvadiscos, Curtis, and Oblicuo, as well as iconic clubs like La Paloma and Nitsa Club, among many others. Her goal is to channel the musical inspiration she experienced in Tokyo and Latin America into Barcelona’s scene, helping to create a more diverse and vibrant musical landscape.
