Never Before Seen – Unusual Standards
October 7 2022, 4.00pm
Eleven flags with unusual colors and symbols: the result of a participatory art workshop that involved a group of students of Italian as a second language and that was curated by Codici Ricerca e Intervento, along with artist Noura Tafeche. Each work represents some common traits that emerged among the students during a series of meetings and conversations about the most diverse topics, from culinary preferences to childhood memories, aiming to question our definition of identity and community. Hence the flag for who cries while cutting onions, the ones for who loves cooking or the flag for who laughs for no reason. The artist Noura Tafeche: "These flags subvert our definition of belonging. They give the possibility to build new communities that do not depend on languages or passports".
