MOMO

Batsheva Dance Company – Ohad Naharin
October 20 – 21, 2023
CANCELED
The stunning new work sprung from Ohad Naharin’s genius is being brought to Milan for the first time, together with the Batsheva Dance Company, one of the world’s leading dance companies. MOMO has two souls: one rooted deep in the earth – embodying the archetypes of raw masculinity – and the other seeking a renewed and distinct identity. Accompanied by the Landfall album by the legendary Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet, a reference ensemble for contemporary music, the dancers’ bodies unfold on stage in an act of choral passion. A constant search for movement anomalies capable of generating an inexhaustible flow of images, sounds and meanings.
Founded in 1964 by Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild – who appointed Martha Graham as the artistic director – the Batsheva Dance Company is one of the world’s most acclaimed contemporary dance companies. Since 1989 it has been based at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv. Born in Israel in 1952, Ohad Naharin became artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company in 1990, leading the company to revolutionize the international scene. After 30 years as director, Naharin stepped down from the role in 2018, remaining at the company’s service as resident choreographer. Naharin is also the creator of Gaga, an innovative movement language – now popular worldwide – that has shaped the practice and vision of the Batsheva Dance Company.
