AMAZONIA 2040

Martha Hincapié Charry
March 28 – 29, 2023
ITALIAN PREMIERE
Running time 55’ After the March 28 show, on stage, there will be a meeting with the artist Martha Hincapié Charry, who will present his work and his artistic research
In what state will the Amazon forest be in twenty years? What can we learn from indigenous cultures that can change our relationship to the planet? Colombian artist Martha Hincapié Charry – one of the most visceral representatives of South American culture in the world – asks these questions from a personal perspective, using her body to portray how nature is oppressed and in danger. Confronting the spectators with images of the destruction of a sacred habitat, Martha Hincapié Charry, embodying the multiple roles of shaman, victim and warrior, fuses environmental activism, stories of extinguished communities and personal narratives creating a performance which is both an intimate ritual and a powerful celebration of indigenous people.
Martha Hincapié Charry is a BIPoC artist, choreographer and performer. She studied dance in Colombia and completed her studies in dance-theater and solo dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany, under Pina Bausch. She has performed internationally in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Since 2011 she has been the founder, curator, and artistic director of Plataforma/SurReal Berlin, Ibero-American festival of dance, performance, installation, and scenography, which reached its eighth edition in 2020. She has collaborated as a curator with the Dance Biennial in Cali (Colombia) and is currently associate curator of Radial System Berlin.
