Marcos Morau, associate artist of Triennale Milano Teatro, and his dance company La Veronal, one of the most acclaimed on the international scene, present La Mort i la Primavera, a piece based on the novel of the same title by Catalan author Mercè Rodoreda. In the darkly enigmatic make-believe land where thiscruel but visionary tale takes place, La Veronal creates a work of striking modern-day relevance. La Mort i la Primavera is an allegory of creative freedom and art's healing effect on the anguish of the creative-destructive cycle. The universe that is brought to life onstage, suspended between the spiritual and animal dimensions, throbs with sadness, anger and resistance while journeyingthrough illusions of the past, echoes of the present and a struggle for a future which proves increasingly hard to imagine.
Trained between Valencia, Barcelona and New York in photography, movement and theater, Marcos Morau (Valencia, 1982) builds imaginary worlds and landscapes with a lucid look towards contemporaneity. Named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2023 by the French Ministry of Culture and selected as Best Choreographer of the Year in 2023 and 2025 by the prestigious German magazine Tanz, Marcos Morau continues to grow artistically with an extraordinary career as a choreographer and stage director. Since 2004, he has directed La Veronal, which has become one of the most prominent dance companies on the European scene, and in 2013 he received the National Dance Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and the National Culture Award of Catalonia in 2025.
La Veronal, praised by international critics and winner of numerous awards, has presented its productions in the most renowned theatres and festivals across more than thirty countries: the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Biennale di Venezia, the Festival d'Avignon, Tanz im August in Berlin, the Romaeuropa Festival, SIDance Festival in Seoul, Sadler's Wells in London or Danse Danse Montréal, among many others. In addition to his continuous work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is a guest artist with several companies and theatres around the world, where he develops new creations situated halfway between the performing arts and dance: Nederlands Dans Theater, Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Royal Danish Ballet or the Royal Ballet of Flanders, among many others. Since 2023, he has been an associate artist at the Staatsballett Berlin, a company linked to the Deutsche Oper, the Komische Oper and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. He is also a resident choreographer for the prestigious Nederlands Dans Theater and a guest artist at Triennale Milano. Combining his profile as a director and creator, he is also a guest teacher at various art universities and an artistic advisor for the programming of several dance festivals. The future of Morau and La Veronal pursues the search for new formats and languages in which opera, dance and physical theatre engage in a closer dialogue than ever before, seeking new ways of expressing and communicating in our present time, always turbulent and changing.
