When was love born? In a setting that shifts between an archive, a lab and a garbage dump, an actress sorts through the objects, remains and waste of thousands of years of love stories. In a mix of live-feed video, performance and physical theater, this new piece by the Catalan company Agrupación Señor Serrano, a recipient of multiple awards, delves into love's origins and forms throughout both history and individual (or perhaps universal) experience. Historia del amor examines the myth of El Dorado, the fabled city of gold hidden in the jungle, never reached by anyone. Even if the idea of love has changed throughout the centuries, it has always remained the core of our existence.
Founded by Àlex Serrano in Barcelona in 2006, Agrupación Señor Serrano is a theater company that creates original productions based on stories drawn from contemporary life. The company employs a rich mix of innovative and vintage tools to push the boundaries of theater. Building on creative collaborations, Señor Serrano’s productions combine performance, text, video, sound, and scaled models to stage stories that explore the conflicting aspects of today’s human experience. The company’s productions are co-produced internationally and tour worldwide. Currently, the core of Agrupación Señor Serrano consists of Àlex Serrano, Pau Palacios, and Barbara Bloin. David Muñiz and Paula S. Viteri complement the stable company team. In addition, for each production, the company relies on the essential collaboration of a variable interdisciplinary creative team. Agrupación Señor Serrano was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2015. The company has also been recognized nationally and internationally with awards such as the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona and the Premi FAD Sebastià Gasch.
