Formafantasma

An encounter with designers Formafantasma during the Design Week, proposed by Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, in anticipation of its forthcoming exhibition Mondo Reale, within the frame of the 23rd International Exhibition Unknown Unknowns.An Introduction to Mysteries (July 15 – December 11, 2022, Triennale Milano).

The conversation will revolve around Formafantasma’s vision for the design of the exhibition. Departing from the show's evocative title Mondo Reale (Real World in Italian), Formafantasma aims to respond to an apparently simple question: what is reality in the context of a fabricated exhibition? The exhibition design becomes an exercise in balancing the needs of contemporary art to exist in the spatial abstraction of a ‘white cube’ while considering the ecological implications of designing a temporary space. Formafantasma have previously collaborated with Fondation Cartier, for instance on the exhibition Metamorphosis. Art in Europe Now (Paris, 2019), which resulted in the inclusion of Formafantasma’s work in the collection of Fondation Cartier.
