A major retrospective dedicated to Francesco Clemente explores his painting practice from the 1970s to the present, bringing together a selection of approximately 70 works, including rarely exhibited pieces as well as new paintings. The exhibition introduces the idea of the in-between, a state of being across worlds and dimensions, as the subject that runs throughout his work. A sense of metamorphosis shapes his imagery, in a continuous dialogue between inner and outer worlds. Clemente’s art reflects a cosmopolitan and experimental approach, moving between Western and Eastern cultures and traditions. His images engage with themes of identity and the human condition—selfhood, the body, sexuality, spirituality, myth, and dreamlike landscapes—within a practice that does not follow a linear path, but unfolds across multiple directions and languages.
