The Belgian company Peeping Tom, among the most visionary on the international scene, returns to Triennale with Chroniques, a project that explores the fluidity of time and human consciousness through a mythological narrative that intertwines reality, legends, and perceptions. Five figures are trapped in a temporal maze, mutating and colliding in an attempt to defy immortality. Their existence takes place in a vast sulfuric landscape, unfolding in a series of chronicles. Is this landscape the ground for new creations, or made out of remnants of what once existed? Confronted with different laws and physical phenomena, their bodies reveal other behaviors and possibilities of being, without knowing if they are at the twilight or dawn of their existence. We are witnessing a bodily metamorphosis in an abyssal and poetic dimension. Through the relationship between humans and nature, this work explores liminality and transformation, seeking new forms of community, coexistence and interaction.
Peeping Tom is a Belgian dance theater company founded by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier. Since its foundation in 2000 in Brussels, it has presented its creations around the world, receiving several important awards, including the Laurence Olivier Award in the United Kingdom for 32 rue Vandenbranden (2009) and the Patrons Circle Award at the International Arts Festival in Melbourne. The company work process always starts from a hyperrealist setting which later breaks open and begins to defy the logic of time, space and mood. In this frame, the public becomes the witness – or rather, the voyeur – of what usually remains hidden and unsaid, taken into subconscious worlds, nightmares, fears and desires.
