With extraordinary access to one of the most protected places in the world and overcoming unique technical challenges, Werner Herzog documented the interior of the Chauvet Cave in southern France with a specially designed 3D camera. Herzog takes us on an exciting journey into the heart of an extraordinary underground world, revealing masterpieces of art from more than 32,000 years ago. Intact drawings of horses, cattle and lions emerge from the half-light and, under the flickering light of the flashlight, seem to come alive for a fleeting instant, testifying to the ingenuity and wonder of primordial art.
The screening is part of the program Werner Herzog and the four natural elements, which accompanies the exhibition Il Nostro Tempo, CinéFondationCartier.
