The "voices from the real world" are voices that maybe we have forgotten. I like the idea that if we want to understand the future, we have to listen to the past.

A video to bring to life the story of Voci dal Mondo Reale, an exclusive performance held on November 11, 2022 at Triennale Milano, commissioned as part of Nomadic Nights—the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain's live program—for the exhibition Mondo Reale.
Directed by composer and musician Alexis Paul in collaboration with choreographer Alessandro Sciarroni- Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and associate artist of Triennale Milano Teatro-more than seventy singers performed their songs ranging from unknown epochs to the 20th century. Most come from the oral tradition, others are signature songs. The pieces come from the regions of Artsakh and Tavush in Armenia, Kakheti and Samegrelo in Georgia, western Moldavia, Transylvania and Epirus, Kabylia in Algeria and the Azores, as well as northern Campania, Sardinia and Lombardy.

These voices have the power to establish an empathetic relationship between the artist and the audience. Voice is a kind of wave that has the power to travel from one place to another.
Alessandro Sciarroni
At the same time distant and faithful to their ancestral traditions, the choirs perform songs—revisited with a more contemporary vein—that speak of love, nature, exile and resistance, of secular or sacred rituals of daily life. The repertoire goes beyond countries of origin to undo contemporary boundaries through the cross-cultural language of music.
