On the occasion of the exhibition Lella and Massimo Vignelli. A Language of Clarity, dedicated to the work of the two leading designers of the twentieth century, British designer Tony Brook critically examines the Vignellis’ influence on his own work. While grounded in modernist ideals, Brook’s practice deliberately diverges from the “Canon”, injecting wit, playfulness, and experimentation into his work. Based in London, Brook is the co-founder of the graphic design studio SPIN, established in 1992 and known for creating visual identities for major cultural institutions. A design historian and educator, he is also co-founder of Unit Editions, an independent publishing house producing monographs on visual culture.
