Lella and Massimo Vignelli worked for over fifty years between Italy and the United States, bringing together graphic design, product design, interiors, and visual identity with a unified vision. Trained in the postwar years in Milan, Venice, and Chicago, they developed in New York a systemic method grounded in structure and synthesis. The volume published by Electa (2026), released on the occasion of the current exhibition Lella and Massimo Vignelli: A Language of Clarity, retraces the work of these two leading figures of 20th-century design through projects, photographs, drawings, and archival materials. The narrative is enriched by contributions from scholars, designers, and curators—including Michael Bierut, Peter B. Lloyd, Gianni Biondillo, and Domitilla Dardi—offering a multifaceted perspective on themes and viewpoints that remain highly relevant today.
