Thema (Omaggio a Joyce)

We host a listening experience dedicated to one of Luciano Berio’s most significant works. Thema (Omaggio a Joyce) was created in collaboration with Umberto Eco, drawing on James Joyce’s Ulysses. Transforming words into sound, the work explores the boundaries between language, music, and experimentation. For the occasion, the work is presented in a recent multichannel version created by Tempo Reale, the music research centre founded by Berio in 1987. The listening session is accompanied by a selection of materials and documents tracing the genesis of the work, as well as an introduction offering insights into Berio’s practice.
