A series of acoustic and electro-acoustic concerts curated by Nicola Ratti and conceived for the morning hours—when natural light is at its brightest—Matinée invites attentive, intimate listening. Each event offers sound experiences that differ in language and references, yet are united by a central element: the quality of listening. A mode of listening that interacts with space, time, and light, becoming a moment of suspension and perceptual openness.

This session features Lippard and Grieco presenting their upcoming album Today’s Special, to be released by Shelter Press later this year. Their collaboration, which began in 2025, brings together the acoustic timbre of the viola da gamba and the distinctive sonic qualities of linguistic practice, creating a harmonic interplay between instrumental sound, voice, and language.

Hanne Lippard and Renato Grieco began their collaboration in 2025, during Lippard’s residency at Villa Massimo in Rome and their concurrent residency at Fondazione Morra in Naples.

Consistent with their individual artistic practices, the collaborative work of the duo centers on musical compositions predicated on speech and language.The inevitable outcome is a harmonic interplay between Grieco's instrumental humanism, the acoustic vocal timbre of the viola da gamba, and the distinctive sonic attributes of Lippard's linguistic practice. Working with methods of reduction rather than opulence in both tonal composition and rhetoric, their repertoire presents itself as a novel synthesis between melody and diction. Their most recent performances include Valdemars Slot (DK), Villa Massimo Accademia Tedesca (IT), Vulcana Stromboli (IT) Art Géneve Music (CH), Centro Pecci (IT), Somerset House (UK).
