Through a poetic and visual investigation of Cesare Pavese’s oeuvre, Silvia Costa creates a piece that connects with the real through the transfiguration of objects into images and symbols. Dialoghi con Leucò, one of the Italian writer’s last works, draws anachronistically on mythology to question the pain and violence of the present. Nel paese dell'inverno explores the mysterious secrets and the inexplicable destinies tangled together in six of the 27 dialogues of the stories, adapted for the stage: the Mystery, the Beast, the Werewolf, the Mother, the Flood, the Gods. The artist transforms these themes into visions, staging a dialogue between bodies, objects and sounds, which expertly modulates the tension between the icy monsters of the real and the fragile plot of the myth.

Silvia Costa, Italian director and performer, is associate artist at Teatro dell’Arte/Triennale Milano (2017-19). Her theatre draws on a perceptive research on images, which spark reflection and engagement from the spectators. As author, director, performer or set designer, this eclectic artist employs different artistic languages to explore the theatre in a deeply personal way. Through a nomadic approach to formal modalities, she has created performances (La quiescenza del seme, A sangue freddo, Alla Traccia, Midnight Snack), theatre pieces (Figure, Stato di Grazia, Quello che di più grande l’uomo ha realizzato sulla terra, Poil de Carotte), installations and videos (Musica da Camera, Tabula, Emotional Intelligence, Descrizione di un quadro). Since 2012 she has produced several works and installations for young audiences. Since 2006 she has been a collaborator of Romeo Castellucci, also performing in his works. Her work has been presented in major festivals, both in Italy and internationally.
