The theater company Dewey Dell continues its exploration of themes and narrative structures from antiquity, engaging directly with Henry Purcell’s Baroque opera Dido and Aeneas, one of the most compelling interpretations of the Latin tragedy. A central element is the electroacoustic rewriting of the entire score and its relationship with the words of the original libretto, which evoke natural events and fuel the choreographic and scenic apparatus. Every cataclysm holds within it the raw power of calm and the possibility of radically transforming everything.
Dewey Dell Dewey Dell is a dance and performing arts company active since 2006 composed of Agata Castellucci, Teodora Castellucci, Vito Matera and the musician Demetrio Castellucci. The choreography research is constantly inspired by the animal kingdom and the images of art history, combining the actions and behaviours of unrecognizable animals and plants with the expression and compositional traditions of painting and sculpture. A new body language wedges its way between culture and instinct, stylization of the forms and knowledge of the wild. In the past few years Dewey Dell’s research has developed its own path of bold confrontation with archetypes and narrative frames drawn from the ancient world, with the intention of turning the model into a cast for pouring out a new and contemporary essence. The production “The Rite of Spring” (2023) with the original music by Igor Stravinsky won the “Danza&Danza” award as Best Italian Production of 2023.
